I've been asmallworld-ed!

Have been getting lotsa hits on my greed band post all b'cos of this website: a.k.a. "snobster"
But I have to say I'm quite impressed with the concept of it i.e. a super-exclusive social networking website which requires a superpremium member to invite you (apparently if you wanna bypass this, you need at least 100 invites from normal members) and you need to be somebody...and I really mean somebody. Examples of the high-profile members include Paris Hilton, Quentin Tarantino, Ivanka Trump (Donald Trump's daughter) and Tiger Woods. Come to think of it, I think Friendster, MySpace, etc...just doesn't cut it anymore as a social networking site with so many members trying to link to as many ppl as possible and you sometimes get ppl who don't know you linking you 'cos you're pretty/handsome, etc. Maybe it's time for me to launch another Snobster soon - any takers? More about asmallworld by a member.

SARA's back up again.

Sorry for the false alarm...probably should have called it a maintenance downtime instead. Anyway, enjoy visiting SARA. Thanks.

SARA is down at the moment. =(

Dear readers, SARA is down at the moment but I think it should be back up by tomorrow night if I have enough time in my hands to do it tomorrow/today. Funnily, it coincided with the partial reopening of PPS. So head down there and I'll ping PPS when SARA's back up again. Apologies for the inconvenience. P.S. But if you are curious at the progress and wish to see if it'll load again, try this link.

Get HIV in the cinemas!

I don't normally post spam/forward them around but this one sounds quite serious when my department lecturer started forwarding it to the General Office with a concerned note asking the secretary to forward it to students:

Subject: FW: Urgent message received from LST Could you please cascade as quickly as possible as this came through our NHS web page. For your information, a couple of weeks ago, in the odeon cinema, Festival Park, a person sat on something sharp in one of the seats. When she stood up to see what it was, a needle was found poking through the seat with an attached note saying, "you have been infected with HIV". The Centres for Disease Control in Birmingham, reports similar events Have taken place in several other cities recently. ALL of the needles tested HAVE been found positive for HIV. The CDC also reports that needles have been found in the coin return areas of pay phones and coke machines. Everyone is asked to use extreme caution when confronted with these types of situations. All public chairs should be thoroughly but safely inspected prior to any use. A thorough visual inspection is considered the bare minimum. Further more, they ask that everyone notify their family members and friends of the potential dangers, as well. The previous information was sent from hanley police station to all of the local councils in the Staffs area and was interdepartmentally dispersed.

We were all asked to pass this to as many people as possible.

Paul McCarrick District Health and Safety Officer Greater Manchester East Middleton DO

Anyway, being the skeptical me, I searched Google and found this:

and this:

So, it's up to you if you wanna believe it or not, but I'll definitely check my seat before sitting down next time =)

HELP! Need advice with obsolete computer!

Hi guys, I have a very old computer which I just took out from the store and here are the specs: Pentium III 650 MHz 96MB RAM 8GB HDD 16MB ATI Rage 128 GL Hercules Fortissimo II Gamesurround Soundcard Originally, I intended to turn it into a Tivo-like media centre using Ubuntu & MythTV + a TV Tuner card, but I think my specs might not make it. So now I'm thinking of turning it into a webserver =) Anybody has any experience in this? Any ideas on which Linux distro I should use for such a low-spec machine?

Taking down the 59K Banner =(

Who wants to be linked to the 59K banner?

Looks like the 60K pixel banner wasn't very popular among bloggers with only 1 request so far from Jimmy! So I've made a minor change due to a complaint by red that the banner is too big to fit properly in Firefox =P I've removed 1 line from the banner and it's now measuring 100x590 = 59,000 pixels. Requests to upload your 10x10 pixel image is even easier now, just send me an email ( with a 10x10 pixel picture and the co-ordinates of where you want your picture to be on the banner. Linking back to this blog or is optional. If you don't understand what I'm saying see the illustrated instructions below: Click on the image above for a larger version. More detailed instructions here. *P.S.: More info about Blogasian hosting (as shown in illustrated instructions) here - Link.
